Fashionable Thanksgiving- What to Wear on Thanksgiving and Still Look Chic

Thanksgiving is upon us and if you are anything like me, you’re already planning what to wear to the big feast! This time of year is all about spending time with loved ones, telling stories, sharing laughter and of course, delicious food. This is not a day to worry about your waistline!

Dressing for this holiday is not as easy as you may think and it truly requires a game plan. You need a look that can withstand long hours in the kitchen, long car rides, glares from Grandma and the ever-expanding waistline that we all get on Thanksgiving Day (think pumpkin pie and leftovers on the way home)! One needs to be strategically stylish for this holiday and finding the perfect outfit takes time and planning.

We all spend Thanksgiving in different ways. Some people drive over the river and through the woods to Grandmas house, some plan a huge elegant feast, others prefer a more casual day and some of us make reservations at our favorite restaurants. No matter your plans, we can all arrive in style looking chic yet comfortable because lets face it… we end up eating a lot of food on Thanksgiving.

I have put together three foolproof looks that will help you navigate your Thanksgiving wardrobe whether it’s a casual, dressy or formal affair.

If you stick to the below guidelines, rest assured you will have a successful and comfortable day! A few easy things to remember when dressing for this holiday: wrinkle free fabrics and oversized/loose fitting clothing are a must. Wrinkle free fabrics hold up well whether you have a long drive or plan on spending time in the kitchen and oversized clothing helps hide the expanding waistline (“food baby”).

Sweaters, blouses and blazers help hide your expanding waistline. Think oversized cardigans, sweater dresses, velvet blazers, elastic waist band trousers, and long sleeve maxi dresses.

If your Thanksgiving plans are more on the casual side, I would recommend wearing a pair of jeans or nice joggers, a nice tee or light weight sweater and a velvet blazer (any blazer will do but velvet is one of this seasons hottest trends and you can find a solid velvet blazer in just about any store). Plus, it’s a great piece to add to your closet that can be worn throughout fall and winter. You can pair this look with either a pump or loafer depending on how long your feet can withstand a heel!

If you’re plans are a bit dressier, an oversized sweater dress is the way to go! I tend to wear this look and pair my sweater dress with over-the-knee boots. This would also look great with a bootie if you want a more conservative look. You can’t go wrong either way!

Formal Thanksgiving? Go for something modern and super chic! I would suggest an elegant maxi dress or a silk pajama inspired suit paired with heels and statement earrings.

Remember to be stylish and strategic when picking your Thanksgiving outfit. Make sure to wear fall tones such as burgundy, brown or yellow and don’t forget that a comfortable outfit is the key to a successful day! Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving, Bon Appétit!
